وَنَخْلٌ رَكِيبٌ وَرَكِيبٌ مِنْ نَخْلٍ، وَهُوَ مَا غُرِسَ سَطْرًا عَلَى جَدْوَلٍ أَوْ غَيْرِ جَدْوَلٍ
And date palms 'rakib' and 'rakib' of date palms, which is what is planted in a row along a channel or not along a channel.
شَرُّ النَّاسِ مَنْ مِلْحُهُ عَلَى رُكْبَتِهِ
The worst of people is he whose salt is on his knee.
يُضْرَبُ لِلسَّرِيعِ الْغَضَبِ وَلِلْغَادِرِ أَيْضًا
It is said for the quick-tempered and also for the treacherous.
وَمِنَ الْمَجَازِ: رَكِبَ رَأْسَهُ: مَضَى عَلَى وَجْهِهِ بِغَيْرِ رَوِيَّةٍ لَا يُطِيعُ مُرْشِدًا
And from metaphors: he rode his head: he went his way without consideration, not obeying a guide.
وَهُوَ يَمْشِي الرُّكْبَةَ، وَهُمْ يَمْشُونَ الرُّكْبَاتِ
And he walks the 'rukba', and they walk the 'rukbat'.
إِنَّمَا تَهْلِكُونَ إِذَا صِرْتُمْ تَمْشُونَ الرُّكْبَاتِ كَأَنَّكُمْ يَعَاقِيبُ الْحَجَلِ، لَا تَعْرِفُونَ مَعْرُوفًا، وَلَا تُنْكِرُونَ مُنْكَرًا
You will only perish when you start walking the 'rukbat' as if you were partridges, not knowing good, nor disapproving of evil.
وَعَلَاهُ الرُّكَّابُ: أَيْ تَبِعَنِي، وَجَاءَ عَلَى أَثَرِي
And 'al-rukab' overtook him: meaning he followed me, and came in my tracks.
وَيُوسُفُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ الْقَيْسِيُّ عُرِفَ بِابْنِ الرَّكَّابِيِّ
And Yusuf ibn Abd al-Rahman ibn Ali al-Qaisi was known as Ibn al-Rakkabi.
