Ibn Shumayl said: Grapes are pruned from their tops every year, and what is cut from them is called al-ḥiṭāb. It is said: Your grapes have reached the pruning stage, so prune them, meaning cut their wood.
والمحطب: المنجل الذي يقطع به
And al-miḥṭab: the sickle with which one cuts.
حطب فلان به أي سعى
So-and-so strove for it, meaning he exerted effort.
وامرأته حمالة الحطب
And his wife, the carrier of firewood.
قيل: هو النميمة

وكانت تمشي بالنميمة

Among the fair ones, she did not hunt on the back of a camel, nor did she walk among the people with moist firewood.
