And you say: He gave so much that it was sufficient, meaning he gave abundantly until he said 'Hasbi'.

وقال أبو زيد: أحسبت الرجل أعطيته حتى قال حسبي

And Abu Zayd said: 'Ahsabtu al-rajul', meaning I gave the man until he said 'Hasbi'.

والإحساب: الإكفاء

And Al-Ihsaab: sufficiency.

وقال ثعلب: أحسبه من كل شيء: أعطاه حسبه وما كفاه

And Tha'lab said: 'Ahsabahu min kulli shay', meaning he gave him his sufficiency and what sufficed him.

وأبل محسبة: لها لحم وشحم كثير

And a 'muhasibah' sheep: it has much meat and fat.

فقال: المحسبة بمعنيين: من الحسب وهو الشرف، ومن الإحساب وهو الكفاية

He said: 'Al-Muhasabah' has two meanings: from Al-Hasab, which is honor, and from Al-Ihsaab, which is sufficiency.

أي أنها تحسب بلبنها أهلها والضيف

Meaning it suffices its family and the guest with its milk.

لأحسبنكم من الأسودين، يعني التمر والماء، أي لأوسعن عليكم

I will give you enough of the two black things, meaning dates and water, meaning I will provide abundantly for you.

وأحسب الرجل وحسبه: أطعمه وسقاه حتى شبع

And 'ahsaba al-rajul wa hasabahu': meaning he fed him and gave him drink until he was satiated.

واحتسبت عليه بالمال

And I gave him generously with money.

واحتسبت عنده اكتفيت

And I was satisfied with him.

وفلان لا يحتسب: لا يعتد به
