Tathawaba in the original transmission is with a waw, and in some narrations with a hamza and madd, which is the narration of Al-Sairafi.
وقد أنكر الجوهري والجمهور كونه بالواو
And Al-Jawhari and the majority denied it being with a waw.
وقال ابن دريد وثابت السرقسطي في (غريب الحديث): لا يقال تثاءب المد مخففا بل تثأب بالهمز مشددا
And Ibn Duraid and Thabit Al-Sarqastī said in (Gharib Al-Hadith): It is not said 'tathā'aba' with a lengthened madd and lightened, but rather 'tath'aba' with a hamza and doubled.

Laziness and drowsiness afflicted him, said Ibn Duraid.
وقال الأصمعي: أصابته فترة كفترة النعاس من غير غشي يغشى عليه من أكل شيء أو شربه
And Al-Asma'i said: He was afflicted with a weakness like the weakness of drowsiness, without fainting that overcomes him from eating or drinking something.
وهي الثؤاباء بضم المثلثة، وفتح الهمزة ممدودة
And it is Al-Thu'abaa, with a damma on the thaa, and a fatha on the hamza, lengthened.

And in the Hadith: (Yawning is from Satan).
قيل: وإنما جعله من الشيطان كراهية له، وإنما يكون من ثقل البدن وميله إلى الكسل والنوم
It was said: And he made it from Satan out of dislike for it, and it is due to the heaviness of the body and its inclination towards laziness and sleep.
فأضافه إلى الشيطان لأنه الذي يدعو إلى إعطاء النفس شهوتها
So he attributed it to Satan because he is the one who calls to giving the soul its desires.
وأراد به التحذير من السبب الذي يتولد منه، وهو التوسع في المطعم والشبع فيثقل عن الطاعات ويكسل عن الخيرات
And he intended by it a warning from the cause from which it arises, which is indulging in eating and satiety, which makes one heavy from acts of worship and lazy from good deeds.
والأثأب على مثال أفعل: شجر ينبت في بطون الأودية بالبادية
And Al-Ath'ab, on the pattern of 'af'al': trees that grow in the valleys of the desert.
وهو على ضرب التين، ينبت ناعما، كأنه على شاطىء نهر

Al-Laith said: It is similar to a tree that the non-Arabs call Al-Nishk, and he recited: In a lote tree, or an Ath'ab, and a thorny shrub.
قال أبو حنيفة: الأثأبة: دوحة محلال واسعة يستظل تحتها الألوف من الناس تنبت نبات شجر الجوز، وورقها أيضا كنحو ورقه، ولها ثمر مثل التين الأبيض يؤكل، وفيه كراهة وله حب مثل حب التين، وزناده جيدة
Abu Hanifa said: Al-Ath'abah: a large, spacious tree under which thousands of people take shade, growing like a walnut tree, its leaves are also like its leaves, and it has fruit like white figs that are eaten, and there is dislike in it, and it has seeds like fig seeds, and its wood is good.
وقيل: الأثأب: شبه القصب له رؤوس كرؤوس القصب
And it was said: Al-Ath'ab: resembles reeds with heads like reed heads.
فأما قوله: قل لاءبي قيس خفيف الأثبه فعلى تخفيف الهمزة، إنما أراد الأثأبة
As for his saying: Say to my father Qais, light is its Ath'abah, it is by lightening the hamza, he only intended Al-Ath'abah.
وهذا الشاعر كأنه ليس من لغته الهمز، لأنه لو همز لانكسر البيت، وظنه قوم لغة وهو خطأ
And this poet, it is as if the hamza is not from his language, because if he had used the hamza, the verse would be broken, and some people thought it was a dialect, and it is a mistake.
وقال أبو حنيفة: قال بعضهم: الأثب، فاطرح الهمزة وأبقى الثاء على سكونها، وأنشد: ونحن من فلج بأعلى شعب مضطرب البان أثيث الأثب
And Abu Hanifa said: Some of them said: Al-Athb, so they dropped the hamza and kept the thaa with its sukūn, and recited: And we are from Falaj in the upper part of the valley, the Ban trees are disturbed, abundant Al-Athb.
وأثأب كأحمد: ع، لعله واحد الأثأبات، وهي فلاة بناحية اليمامة
And Ath'ab like Ahmad: a name of a place, perhaps it is a singular of Al-Ath'abat, and it is a desert plain in the direction of Yamama.
ويقال فيه: ثأب، أيضا، كذا في كتاب نصر
And it is also called: Tha'b, according to Nasr's book.
