والتألب، كثعلب، هو الشديد الغليظ المجتمع منا

والإلب، بالكسر: الفتر في اليد ما بين الإبهام والسبابة

يقال: ألب الرجل ألبا إذا حام حول الماء ولم يقدر أن يصل إليه
It is said: A man is thirsty ('aliba) when he circles around water and cannot reach it.
وألب يألب ألبا، كلاهما: برأ أعلاه وأسفله نغل فانتقض
And 'alaba' and 'ya'labu' 'alaban', both mean: its top and bottom healed, then became infected and relapsed.
ورجل ألوب هو الذي يسرع
And a man 'alūb' is one who speeds.
بألب ألوب وحرابة لدى متن وازعها الأورم
