قال اللحياني: (} هؤته بخيرو) {هؤته (بشر) } وهؤته بمال كثير {هوأ، أي أزننته به
Al-Lihyani said: {I suspected him of good} {I suspected him of evil} and I suspected him of much wealth, meaning I suspected him.
وفي (الحكم) : والصحيح} هوت به، بغير همز، كذلك حكاه يعقوب.
And in (Al-Hukm): And the correct is {hawat bihi}, without hamza, as Ya'qub narrated it.

And that occurred in {- hu'a'i} (with fatha) - {- hu'a'i} (with damma), meaning my guess.
وعن أبي عمرو: ( {هؤت به) وشؤت به، أي (فرحت) به.
And from Abu Amr: {ha'tu bihi} and {shu'tu bihi}, meaning I rejoiced in it.

And {hawa'a ilayhi} (like faraha): he aspired, as narrated by Al-Yazidi.

Ha', like jaa' (with open hamza and lengthened) means 'labbayk' (here I am), meaning in the sense of a response. This is how it is in our correct copy, and this has been mistranscribed in many copies, so beware. The poet said: Rather, he answers you when you call his name, and says 'Ha'', and for a long time he responded 'Ha'' meaning 'Labbayk'.

You say to the masculine and feminine {ha'an}, in one form. And to two males: {ha'an}, and to two females: {ha'iyan}. And to two males: {ha'u}, and to a group of females: {ha'un}.
ومنهم من يقول للمذكر (هاء، بالكسر، أي هات) وللمذكرعين ( {هائيا) ولجمع المذكر (} هاؤوا) وللمؤنثة ( {- هائي) بإثبات الياء واللمؤنثين (} هائيا) ولجماعة المؤنث ( {هائين) كهاتيا هاتوا هاتي هاتين، تقيم الهمزة في جميع هذا مقام التاء
And some say to the masculine (ha', with kasra, meaning 'take') and to two males ({ha'iyan}), and to a group of males ({ha'u}), and to the feminine ({- ha'i}) with the affirmation of the ya', and to two females ({ha'iyan}), and to a group of females ({ha'in}), like hatiya, hatu, hati, hatayni, where the hamza in all of this takes the place of the ta'.
ومنهم من يقول (هاء) بالفتح (كجاء، أي) كأن معناه (هاك) و (} هاؤما) يا رجلان و ( {هاؤم) يا رجال، و (} هاء، بلا ياء) و (هاؤما) للمؤنثين، ولجماعة النسوة كما في (لسان العرب) {هاؤمن.
And some say (ha') with fatha (like jaa'), meaning 'here you are'. And ({ha'uma}) O two men, and ({ha'um}) O men, and ({ha'}) without ya', and ({ha'uma}) for two females, and for a group of women as in (Lisan al-Arab) {ha'umn}.
وفي (الصحاح) (} هاؤن) تقيم الهمز في ذلك مقام الكاف
And in (Al-Sihah) ({ha'un}), the hamza in that takes the place of the kaf.
وفيه لغة أخرى: {هأ يا رجل) بهمزة ساكنة (كهع) وأصله هاء، أسقطت الألف لاجتماع الساكنين
And there is another dialect: {ha', O man} with a quiescent hamza (like 'a'in), and its origin is ha', the alif was dropped due to the meeting of two quiescent letters.
(} - وهائي، كهاعي، للمرأة، وللمرأتين) وكذا الذكرين ( {هاءا) مثل هاعا، (ولهن) أي للنسوة (} هأن، كهعن) بالتسكين.
And {- ha'i}, like ha'i, for the woman, and for the two women) and likewise for the two men ({ha'an}) like ha'a, and for them (i.e., the women) ({ha'n}, like 'a'n) with sukūn.
وأما حديث الربا (لا تبيعوا الذهب بالذهب إلا هاء وهاء) فسيأتي ذكره في باب المعتل إن شاء الله تعالى.
As for the hadith about usury (Do not sell gold for gold except ha' and ha'), its mention will come later in the chapter on defective verbs, God willing.
وإذا قيل لك: هاء، بالفتح، قلت: ما {أهاء، أي (ما) آخذ؟
And if it is said to you: Ha', with fatha, you say: Ma {ahaa'}, meaning 'What am I taking?'.
ولا أدري ما أهاء، أي ما أعطي وما أهاء أي على ما لم يسم فاعله أي ما أعطى
And I do not know what I am giving, meaning what I give, and what is given, meaning what was given (passive voice).

And in the Quran {1036 Ha'um, read my record} (Al-Haqqah: 19).
(} والمهوأن) بضم الميم وفتح الهمزة (وتكسر همزته) عن ابن خالويه هو (: الصحراء الواسعة)
And {Al-mahu'an} (with damma on the mim and fatha on the hamza, and its hamza can be kasra) from Ibn Khilawayh is: {the vast desert}.
قال رؤبة: جاءوا بأخراهم على خنشوش في مهوأن بالدبا مدبوش المدبوش: الذي أكل الجراد نبته.
Ru'bah said: They came with their last ones on Khanshush in a vast desert, with locusts having eaten its plants.
(و) المهوأن (: العادة) نقله الصاغاني، (والطائفة من الليل) يقال: مضى {مهوأن من الليل أي هوي منه
And {Al-mahu'an} is: {the habit}, as narrated by Al-Saghani, and {a portion of the night}. It is said: {A portion of the night} passed, meaning a part of it.
و (قال ابن بري (ذكره هنا وهم للجريري، لأن) } مهوأنا (وزنه مفوعل) وكذلك ذكره ابن جني، قال: (والواو) فيه (زائدة، لأنها) أي الواو (لا تكون أصلا في بنات الأربعة) وقد ذكره ابن سيده في مقلوب هنأ، قال: المهوأة: المكان البعيد، قال: وهو مثال لم يذكره سيبويه.
And (Ibn Bury said: Jareeri mentioned it here by mistake, because) {mahwa'ana} has the pattern mafaw'al. Ibn Jinni also mentioned it, saying: And the waw in it is extra, because the waw is not an original letter in four-letter roots. Ibn Sida mentioned it in the inverted roots of hana', saying: Al-mahwa'ah: the distant place. He said: And it is a pattern that Sibawayh did not mention.
(و {لاهاء الله ذا، بالمد، أي لا والله، أو الأفصح) فيه (لاها الله ذا، بترك المد، أو) أن (المد) فيه (لحن) كما ادعاه بعض منهم (والأصل لا والله، هذا ما أقسم به. فأدخل اسم الله بين ها، وذا
And {Laha' Allahu dha}, with madd, meaning 'By God!', or the more eloquent is {Laha Allahu dha}, without madd, or that (the madd) in it is an error, as some claimed. The origin is 'La والله', this is what I swear by. So the name of God was inserted between ha' and dha'.
ومما يستدرك عليه: } هاوأته: فاخرته، لغة في هاويته، عن ابن الأعرابي.
And among what is added: {Hawa'tuhu}: I boasted to him, a dialectal variant of {haawituhu}, from Ibn Al-A'rabi.
وما {هؤت} هوأه أي ما شعرت به ولا أردته.
And I did not {hu'tu} it, meaning I did not feel it nor intend it.
وإني {لأهوء بك عن هذا الأمر، أي أرفعك عنه، نقله اللحياني.
And indeed I {la-ahu'u bika} from this matter, meaning I lift you from it, as narrated by Al-Lihyani.
