And in the Quran: {from {behind him is Hell} (Ibrahim: 16)} meaning in front of him.
وقال الزجاج: وراء (يكون خلف وأمام)
And Al-Zajjaj said: 'Waraa'' (can be behind and in front).
ومعناها ما توارى عنك أي ما استتر عنك
And its meaning is what is hidden from you, i.e., what is concealed from you.
ويكفرون بما وراءه} (البقرة: 91) : وراء في الأصل مصدر جعل ظرفا
{and they disbelieve in what is behind it} (Al-Baqarah: 91): 'Waraa'' is originally a masdar made into an adverb.
ويضاف إلى الفاعل فيراد به ما يتوارى به، وهو خلف، وإلى المفعول، فيراد به ما يواريه، وهو قدام (ضد)
And it is added to the subject, meaning what it is hidden by, which is behind, and to the object, meaning what it conceals, which is in front (opposite).
وقوله تعالى {وكان {وراءهم ملك يأخذ كل سفينة غصبا} (الكهف: 79) قال ابن عباس: كان أمامهم
And His saying, the Almighty: {And there was {behind them a king seizing every ship by force} (Al-Kahf: 79)} Ibn Abbas said: It was in front of them.
قال لبيد: أليس - ورائي إن تراخت منيتي لزوم العصا تحنى عليه الأصابع
Labeed said: Is it not - behind me, if my death is delayed, the leaning on a staff that the fingers bend over?
وعن ابن السكيت: الوراء الخلف، قال: يذكر (ويؤنث)، وكذا أمام وقدام
And from Ibn Al-Sikkit: 'Al-waraa'' is the back, he said: it is masculine (and feminine), and so are 'amaam' and 'quddaam'.
والوراء: الخلف، والوراء: القدام
And 'al-waraa'' is the back, and 'al-waraa'' is the front.
والوراء: ولد الولد
And 'al-waraa'': the child of the child.
ففي التنزيل {ومن ورآء إسحاق يعقوب} (هود: 71) قاله الشعبي
And in the Quran: {And from behind Isaac was Jacob} (Hud: 71), Al-Sha'bi said this.
وما أورثت بالشيء، أي (: ما شعرت)
And 'maa awrathtu bi-shay', meaning: (I did not perceive).
منح حيث زارتني ولم أورأ بها
She visited me, and I did not perceive her.
وريته، وأورأته، إذا أعلمته
'Warraytuhu' and 'awra'tuhu', if you informed him.
وتورأت عليه الأرض) مثل (تودأت) وزنا ومعنى
And (the earth was hidden upon him) like (tawadde'a) in weight and meaning.
استورأت الإبل، إذا ترابعت على نفار واحد
The camels 'istawra'at', if they gathered closely in a single herd.
والوراء: الضخم الغليظ الألواح، عن الفارسي
And 'al-waraa'': the large, broad-framed, according to Al-Farisi.
