وَرَدَ عَنْكَ نَجْأَةُ هَذَا الشَّيْءِ أَيْ شَهْوَتُكَ إِيَّاهُ
And from you came the desire for this thing, meaning your longing for it.
وَذَلِكَ إِذَا رَأَيْتَ شَيْئًا فَاشْتَهَيْتَهُ
And that is when you see something and desire it.
يُقَالُ: ادْفَعْ عَنْكَ نَجْأَةَ السَّائِلِ
It is said: Ward off from yourself the desire of the asker.
أَيْ أَعْطِهِ شَيْئًا مِمَّا تَأْكُلُ لِتَدْفَعَ بِهِ عَنْكَ شِدَّةَ نَظَرِهِ
Meaning give him something of what you eat to ward off from yourself the intensity of his gaze.
فَقَدْ تَكُونُ الشَّهْوَةُ، وَقَدْ تَكُونُ الإِصَابَةُ بِالعَيْنِ
It may be desire, and it may be affliction by the evil eye.
وَالنَّجْأَةُ: شِدَّةُ النَّظَرِ
And the 'naj'ah: is the intensity of the gaze.
أَيْ إِذَا سَأَلَكُمْ عَنْ طَعَامٍ بَيْنَ أَيْدِيكُمْ فَأَعْطُوا لِئَلَّا يُصِيبَكُمْ بِالعَيْنِ
Meaning if he asks you about food in front of you, then give so that he may not afflict you with the evil eye.
وَرُدُوغَا شِدَّةَ نَظَرِهِ إِلَى طَعَامِكُمْ بِلُقْمَةٍ تَدْفَعُونَهَا إِلَيْهِ
And repel the intensity of his gaze towards your food with a morsel you give him.
وَأَنْتَ تَنْجَأُ أَمْوَالَ النَّاسِ
And you eye the people's wealth.
أَيْ تَتَعَرَّضُ لِتُصِيبَهَا بِعَيْنِكَ حَسَدًا وَحِرْصًا عَلَى المَالِ
Meaning you expose yourself to strike it with your eye out of envy and greed for the wealth.
