كَفَاجَأَهُ يُفَاجِئُهُ مُفَاجَأَةً وَافْتَجَأَهُ افْتِجَاءً
Like 'faja'ahu' (he surprised him), 'yufaji'uhu' (he surprises him), 'mufaja'atan' (a surprise), and 'iftaja'ahu' (he surprised him), 'iftija'an' (a surprise).
وَعَنِ ابْنِ الأَعْرَابِيِّ: أَفْجَأَ إِذَا صَادَفَ صَدِيقَهُ عَلَى فَضِيحَةٍ
And from Ibn Al-A'rabi: 'afja'a' means to find one's friend in a scandalous situation.
وَالفُجَاءَةُ بِالضَّمِّ وَالمَدِّ: مَا فَاجَأَكَ
And 'al-fuja'ah' (with damma and madd) is that which surprises you.
وَمَوْتُ الفُجَاءَةِ، مَا يَفْجَأُ الإِنْسَانَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ
And 'mawt al-fuja'ah' is what suddenly befalls a person of that (death).
وَوَرَدَ فِي الحَدِيثِ فِي غَيْرِ مَوْضِعٍ
And it has been mentioned in the Hadith in more than one place.
وَلَقِيتُهُ فُجَاءَةً، وَضَعُوهُ مَوْضِعَ المَصْدَرِ
And I met him suddenly; they used it in place of the masdar (verbal noun).
وَاسْتَعْمَلَهُ ثَعْلَبٌ بِالأَلِفِ وَاللَّامِ وَمَكَّنَهُ فَقَالَ: إِذَا قُلْتَ خَرَجْتُ فَإِذَا زَيْدٌ، فَهَذَا هُوَ الفُجَاءَةُ
And Tha'lab used it with 'al-' and made it definite, saying: If you say 'I went out and suddenly there was Zayd', this is 'al-fuja'ah'.
وَفُجِئَتِ النَّاقَةُ كَفَرِحَ إِذَا عَظُمَ بَطْنُهَا
And 'fuji'at al-naqah' (like 'faraha') means her belly became large.
وَالمَصْدَرُ الفَجْأُ مَهْمُوزاً مَقْصُوراً
And the masdar is 'al-faj'a' (hamzated and shortened).
وَفِي الأَسَاسِ وَالعَبَابِ: فَجَأَ كَمَنَعَ يَفْجَؤُهَا فَجْأً
And in Al-Asas and Al-'Ubab: 'faja'a' (like 'mana'a') 'yafja'uha' (it mates with her) 'faj'an'.
وَزَادَ فِي الأَسَاسِ: وَفَاجَأَهُ أَيْ عَاجَلَهُ
And Al-Asas added: And 'faja'ahu' means it overtook him.
وَالمُفَاجِىءُ هُوَ الأَسَدُ
And 'al-mufaji'' is the lion.
