And 'aḍba'a what was in his soul if he concealed it, and 'aḍba'a (on a thing) iḍbā'an: to be silent about it and conceal it, so he is muḍbi' 'alayhi.

And it is said: So-and-so 'aḍba'a (on the calamity) like 'aḍabba.

Al-Ḥarbī: Al-ḍābi': the hiding hunter. The poet said: Except for a she-camel like a spear and a ḍābi' in the gap between her chest and hands, describing the hunter, meaning he hid in the gap between his horse's forelegs to ambush the wild animal, and likewise the she-camel. And from this is the naming of a man, or it is from ḍaba'a if he sticks to the ground, as Al-Jawharī indicated.

واضطبأ: اختفى وعليه فسر قول أبي حزام العكلي: تزاءل} مضطبىء آرم إذا ائتبه الأد لا تفطؤه من رواه بالباء.

And iḍṭaba'a: to hide. And on this basis, the saying of Abū Ḥizām Al-'Uklī is interpreted: They moved away, a hidden one, if he is alerted, the wild ass does not escape him, from whoever narrated it with 'ba'.

Al-maḍābi'ah (with ḍamm), and in Al-'Abbāb: Al-maḍābī' (and Al-ḍābi'ah) also: Al-ghirārah (with kasr) (heavy), with kasr and fatḥa of the qāf together, it conceals, meaning it hides who carries it beneath it.

فهاؤوا {مضابئة لم يؤل بادئها البدء إذ يبدؤه هاؤوا، أي هاتوا، ولم يؤل: لم يضعف، بادئها: قائلها، وعني} بالمضابئة هذه القصيدة المبتورة.

So bring a maḍābi'ah whose initiator has not failed from the beginning when he initiates it. 'Hā'ū': bring. 'Lam yu'al': did not weaken. 'Bādi'uhā': its initiator. And by 'al-maḍābi'ah' is meant this truncated poem.

وضبأت المرأة إذا كثر ولدها، قال أبو منصور: هذا تصحيف، والصواب ضنأت، بالنون.

And the woman ḍaba'at if her offspring were many. Abū Manṣūr said: This is a misspelling, and the correct word is ḍana'at, with 'nūn'.

الأضباء: وعوعة جرو الكلب إذا وحوح. قال أبو منصور: هذا تصحيف وخطأ، وصوابه الأصياء، بالصاد، من صأى يصأي وهو الصئي.

Al-aḍbā': The whining sound of a puppy when it whimpers. Abū Manṣūr said: This is a misspelling and an error, and the correct word is al-aṣyā', with 'ṣād', from ṣa'ā yaṣ'ā, which is al-ṣa'ī.
