أنهم منسبون إلى صابىء بن لامك أخي نوح عليه السلام
That they are attributed to Sab'i' son of Lamech, brother of Noah, peace be upon him.
وقيل هم عبدة الملائكة، وقيل: عبدة الكواكب
And it is said they are worshippers of angels, and it is said: worshippers of the stars.
أو من صبا معتلا إذا مال، لميلهم من الحق إلى الباطل
Or from 'saba' (defective verb) if he inclined, due to their inclination from truth to falsehood.
قدم إليه طعامه فما صبأ ولا أصبأ أي ما وضع أصبعه فيه
His food was presented to him, and he did not 'sab'a' nor 'asba'a', meaning he did not put his finger in it.
وأصبأهم: هجم عليهم وهو لا يشعر بمكانهم
And 'asba'ahum' means to descend upon them while unaware of their location.
هوى عليهم! مصبئا منقضا فغادر الجمع به مرفضا
He descended upon them! Attacking suddenly and swooping down, leaving the gathering in disarray.
والتركيب يدل على خروج وبروز
