والظاهر أنه مصدر بمعنى اسم المفعول، أي الأمر المشيء أي المراد الذي يتعلق به القصد
And the apparent meaning is that it is a masdar in the sense of a passive participle, i.e., the intended matter to which the purpose relates.

Shay': an expression for everything existent, either by sense like bodies, or by meaning like sayings.

فصار أشاي ثم أبدل من الكسرة فتحة ومن الياء ألف فصار أشايا
So it became 'ashay', then the kasrah was replaced by a fatha, and the yaa by an alif, resulting in 'ashaya'.
فاجتمعت ثلاث ياآت فتوالت الأمثال فاستثقلت فحذفت الوسطى وقلبت الأخيرة ألفا
So three yaas came together, the similar letters followed each other, it was found heavy, so the middle one was deleted and the last one was turned into an alif.
لأنه لا يصح همز الياء الأولى لكونها أصلا غير زائدة
Because it is not correct to hamz the first yaa, as it is an original, not an added, letter.
فوزنه على ما اختاره الجوهري أفائل، وقيل أفايا
Its weight, according to what Al-Jawhari chose, is 'afa'il', and it is said 'afaya'.
لأنه لا هاء في الأشياء
Because there is no haa in al-ashya'.
فخفت كثيرا فقابلوا خفتها بالتثقيل وهو المنع من الصرف
